I moved to Bulgaria knowing that the toughest struggle would be facing the weather during the winter, however I never expected to start feeling it in the beginning of October.
When I first arrived to Bulgaria in the last week of June, the weather was rather good, I didn’t even feel any difference between my hometown Lisbon and Sofia. Around 30 degrees, the nights were very warm as well, and I managed to wear t-shirts and shorts until the last days of September. I never expected that the Autumn would strike us so hard and that the temperatures would drop as quick as they did. A week ago I still enjoyed a 28 degree celsius afternoon but the last few days we’ve been dealing with temperatures not so far from zero.
Yesterday, we got in the lift from Simeonovo to Aleko, to hike and to show Vitosha Mountain to my best friend who has came for the weekend and even though I was wearing hundreds of clothes like I never wore before in Portugal, I still felt the cold breeze and my feet were as cold as ice. It was too late when I realized wearing Converse All Star were not the best choice for this type of climate.
I’m getting more and more worried now, since I’ve heard that the temperatures drop to 20 degrees below zero during the winter. Imagining those days that I work night shift and I have to go home at eight in the morning, with the city covered in white…
I need a new whole wardrobe. A t-shirt, a jacket and a pair of shoes will not be enough as they were back in Portugal. Bulgarian winter is coming.
